Reduced output due to drought and bad weather, combined with steady demand and increased energy costs, is causing peanut butter manufacturers to raise their prices. These will not be slight increases either; it has been reported that one manufacturer is increasing their price by 40%! Peanut butter is an important staple in almost every home in the United States, and parents rely on it as a quick, inexpensive source of protein for their children, so the impact of such a dramatic price increase could be tremendous and widespread.
