Read Across America
March 04, 2011
The National Education Association's "Read Across America" event took place locally at the Stevens Center in downtown Winston-Salem on Wednesday, March 2. The event, part of First Lady Michelle Obama's education initiatives, encourages elementary school children to read, and does so with the help of The Cat In The Hat, the famous children's book character created by Dr. Seuss. 725 students from local elementary schools attended the reading of the popular children's book, and as they left the assembly, the children and their adult teachers and chaperons received box lunches provided by Gallins Foods, personal copies of The Cat In The Hat, and a chance to wave and hug The Cat In The Hat, who stopped by for a special visit.
